ICT CS Mucheru Hits Back At DP Ruto’s Team

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has hit back at a section of politicians allied with Deputy President William Ruto for questioning the motive behind his decision to back Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance flag bearer Raila Odinga in the race to State House.

This comes after pro-DP Ruto supporters, led by Governor Josphat Nanok, on Thursday insinuated that the CS was allegedly planning to influence the conduct and the outcome of the polls, in favour of Odinga, given his ministry’s important role in facilitating the August elections.

The incumbent Turkana governor also called out Mucheru accusing him of allegedly using State resources to drum up support for Odinga ahead of the polls. He was speaking at a press conference in Turkana where he was flanked by members of DP Ruto’s campaign secretariat.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, Mucheru castigated Nanok for making the utterances, implying that the outgoing Turkana governor was also using state resources to campaign for DP Ruto.

As such, Mucheru underscored, Nanok isn’t in a position to cast the first stone at him.

“A Governor, Campaign for a Presidential candidate, who continues to remain as the Deputy President, is writing to IEBC about a CS in the same Government, to explain how he will use resources?” Mucheru posed.

“How about the Governor and the DP, what resources are they using? Who is fooling who?”

On Thursday, Nanok noted that the ICT Ministry’s role affects the verifiability, transparency, accountability, and credibility of the August polls, as such the CS should at the very least tread carefully when it comes to interacting with Odinga in order to avoid raising eyebrows.

He likewise  urged the independent  Electoral  and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take action against  mucheru and other CSs,who he claimed were planning  to interfere with the elections.
