Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has urged law enforcement agencies in the Rift Valley region to act swiftly and round up youth who allegedly organised and pelted ODM leader Raila Odinga’s helicopter and vehicles with stones on Friday.
The IG also called for the same action against those found culpable of planning the attack on the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition presidential candidate.
The incident is said to have occurred when Odinga and his allies went to pay their respects to the family of the late Jackson Kibor in Kabenes, Uasin Gishu County.Police intervention however made it possible for the leaders to leave the area without any further incidences.
“The Inspector General of Police has issued firm instructions to the Rift Valley Regional Police Commander to urgently take decisive action against the perpetrators of today’s violence, including all those who will be implicated for planning and organizing the violence,” the National Police Service (NPS) said in a statement.
NPS likewise condemned the incident, which Odinga’s camp has described as being politically instigated.
“The National Police Service condemns the ugly criminal incident and appeals for tolerance and respect for competitors in this season of politics as we approach elections. Acts of violence targeting opponents shall not be tolerated,” the police force added.
