Police Deployed To Marsabit After Chief, Assistant Among 5 Killed In Attack

A team of police officers has been deployed to Laisamis, Marsabit County, following an attack where five people, including a chief and an assistant chief, were killed on Thursday.

In a statement released on Friday, National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Bruno Shioso revealed that the incident is connected to a recurring feud between two communities in the area.

“NPS is committed to ensure that peace is maintained in Marsabit County and the entire country and will deploy necessary resources in pursuit of this noble objective,” Shioso said.Loglogo Senior Chief Kennedy Kongoman, Lokileleng’i Assistant Chief Keena Moga and the three other victims met their demise when they were ambushed by the assailants as they attempted to track cattle stolen in Awaye area. Their bodies were discovered in a vehicle at the ambush site.

According to Marsabit County Commissioner Paul Rotich, 12 other persons who were part of the search team are also missing, among them the area MCA Bernard Leakano.
